Membership
Your local genealogy society is a great place to network with fellow genealogists, learn from invited speakers, and partake in benefits that only membership brings. Benefits include access to all types of local records, discounts on publications and seminars/conferences, genealogical field trips, and newsletters.
The Portage County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society welcomes new members throughout the year. Dues for the Chapter are $12.00 for single membership and $14.00 for two or more at one address. To become a member or renew your membership, click on the download application button (or use the form in the newsletter). Please make checks payable to: Portage County Chapter OGS and mail to P.O. Box 821, Ravenna, OH 44266-0821 or return at a monthly meeting. Dues are payable in January of each year.
Volunteering
Newspaper Clipping: A group of members meet on Wednesday mornings to clip old newspapers which we received from the Western Reserve Historical Society. We save all obituaries and articles of genealogical and historical interest to Portage County for the files in the Portage County Historical Society Library. Obituaries are copied for placement in notebooks; the originals are sent to the Ohio Genealogical Society for their card file.
Serving As A Chapter Officer: Anyone who has been a member of the Portage County Chapter for one year is eligible to serve as an elected officers which include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Serving As A Chapter Appointed Officer: There are also several appointed positions for which members may volunteer their time including Historian, Publicity Coordinator, Newsletter Editor, Publications Chairperson.
